You got Santana's voice exactly spot on and April wanting to get in on anything she can and Finn, just wanting to protect Rachel. Because he just wants to help people and sometimes he gets it horribly wrong but he's still wonderful and I appear to have been sidetracked. And Rachel, always performing, no matter what the circumstances.
Thank you! The bits with April were fun to write and Santana’s one of my favorites, so I’m very glad that you think I’ve gotten her right. :) Also, Fiiiiiin. Get sidetracked with him as much as you want because that boy, my heart. He has such good intentions and he tries and tries but things just never seem to work out the way he wants them to. And girl’s in her element when she’s performing, of course Rachel would be the best under pressure. That’s just science, right there.
Did you have in mind that Rachel was alone like at the beginning of the series when she went up, or do you think that she did have friends but none who would stand for her? Because to me even the friendships that she has on the show are rather tenuous.
I thought that Rachel had friends, but none of them were willing to stand for her. That’s the thing about the Hunger Games – they make you examine parts of yourself that no one should ever have to: do you love this person, or do you love yourself more? They might have cared about her, but none of Rachel’s friends were willing to part with their own lives for hers. I will say that if Finn had been able to, I think he would have traded places for her. Poor boy.
I love that you didn't let Dave kiss Kurt, I love that he's a little bit stronger in some ways but still so broken in others…//…Seeing the other characters and knowing that they are going to kill or be killed is heartbreaking, 'cause I have had serious issues with Dave and cheering for him is not something I ever expected to do. But you made me care for him. Bitch.
Dave is one of those characters I never expected to like as much as I do. Is that weird? Because I love Blaine, and I really like him and Kurt together, but Karofsky’s story arc just got me in a way that Kurt/Blaine’s didn’t – creepy parts and all (because WTF was that thing with the cake topper? DAMMIT RYAN MURPHY ADDRESS THESE THINGS). Overall, I really just want that boy to be happy, even if in this story he just continually tumbles down a bottomless pit of angst and despair.
And I am. But that’s nothing new, right? :P
And the way the nooses come back into the story is ugh. That's about where I started having entire branches fall into my eyes and blinking just wouldn't get rid of them.
When I write sad things, or reread something sad that I’ve written, I don’t cry. It’s weird – I can get super-emotional over the stupidest things, but if it came out of my pen, it doesn’t get me. But killing Rachel honestly broke me. I literally had to walk away from the keyboard for a minute and wash my face before I could finish that section.
And then the all out crying happened when Dave just made is perfectly clear that all he wants is for Kurt to have a happy life and it was worth going through everything because he was happy and I'm rambling but bugger it because ALL THE FEELINGS.
*gets you tissues*
